Life with Leo

I can’t believe it’s almost 6 months since our beautiful little boy was born and consequently that long since I’ve written a post! People aren’t wrong when they say looking after a baby is a full-time job…but that you also wouldn’t have it any other way.

Every day is now full of delightful moments, whether it is amusement at Leo’s funny little expressions and noises (raspberries, gurgles, wind-breaking etc), making him laugh when we’re changing him or watching him kick his legs up and grab the toys on his activity mat. It’s a real thrill when he meets a new milestone (he’s almost sitting up by himself now) and to see how he’s filling out and growing longer.

There have been difficult bits too of course – we had some issues getting his feeding right early on and I wouldn’t say he’s the best day-time sleeper. He’s more of a cat-napper and often takes a while to settle with a fair amount of crying. And in the last couple of weeks he has gone back to waking every 3 hours at night which is hard to take when he was sleeping 12 hours a night for a while. But that’s all in a day’s work and I know it won’t last forever.

Life has definitely changed with the addition of Leo but it’s a wonderful journey that we wouldn’t give up for a second.

Quick trip to Marysville and Yarra Valley

Earlier in January we decided to take a couple of nights out to visit the Yarra Valley again for a welcome relaxing break. This included a drive to Marysville, almost two years after Black Saturday. We visited there last year as well and we noticed a few changes this year though not major ones – it made us realise that re-generation and re-development takes a long time.
Trees near Steavensons Falls Victoria Australia

There were a number of new houses that had been built and lots of green growth on the trees where the bushfire went through. There were also a lot of trees with no new growth, just bare black trunks which was sad to see. The surrounds of Steavensons Falls looks very different compared to prior to the fire.

Countdown

While most people are on the countdown to the new year, we’re counting down to about 3 weeks later when we’ll be joined by a new little member of the family (if he’s on time that is).

It has been an exciting journey to this point from the early days of finding out I was pregnant, getting through the first couple of months of nausea, seeing the healthy bub on the 20 week scan, feeling his kicks and squirms and then growing and growing until now at 35 weeks when I’m very slow getting around and feeling quite tired and uncomfortable.

There has been lots to prepare and read about but we have the nursery set up now and only one more antenatal class to attend so we feel we are just about ready for the major changes that are about to happen in our lives.
