Mary and Max
Andrew introduced me to claymation with Wallace and Gromit and I love it so I jumped at the opportunity to see the new Australian claymation film by Adam Elliot (who also did Harvey Krumpet). I was extra interested because I knew it portrayed what it is like to have Autism which is relevant to my work and also because a friend of mine has experienced the condition in her family. And one of the two main characters lives in Mount Waverley!
It’s actually quite a heart-wrenching film and I had tears rolling down my cheeks at the end but at the same time there are some very funny moments and the way it is done is so clever.
I saw it through Autism Victoria who are playing it around Melbourne for awareness raising so that was also really positive.

Thanks for the review Ruth. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Amit and I are seeing it tomorrow night at Govinda’s (with the buffet dinner before hand)..can’t wait!
Govindas is great! Used to go there yonks ago. Hope you enjoy the movie and also the long weekend in the mountains.
I really loved Mary and Max. It was such a good story and so heart-rending at the end. The detail was excellent. Adam Elliot really has an eye for things. The color and the slightly wonky claymation figures and scenes made it such an intimate film. There was quite a lot of humor thrown in as well. Very worthwhile
Have to get out Harvey Krumpet as I haven’t seen that one either.
Completely agree! I think I have seen Harvey Krumpet a few years ago - from memory it was a short film.
I really want to see Mary and Max. I wonder if it’s still on in Syd. I enjoyed Harvey Krumpet at the MFS members’ only showing last year.
Great to be together for the long weekend…but all too short. These times together should be cherished.
Yes that’s true! It was a very enjoyable weekend.
