Quick trip to Maleny

We went for a quick overnight trip to visit Mum in Maleny last weekend. It was an early start on the Saturday – the alarm bleating out at 4.45am so we could make our 7.05am flight. We left the car at ‘Andrew’s airport parking’ which is a great service – less than $15/day to park undercover and their shuttle to and from the airport leaves every couple of minutes.

View of glasshouse mountains

Picked up our Toyota Prius at Brisbane airport – it was interesting driving a battery/petrol hybrid car. There’s barely any sound when you start it up which feels strange.

Had a great day with Mum, a nice walk through the Maleny rainforest and a look at the gorgeous view of the Glasshouse Mountains. They are bizarre pieces of geography. Then we picked up some nice cheese in town and had an ice-cream. Mum made her famous Thai yellow fish curry for dinner – nice and spicy – and beforehand we enjoyed lots of cheese and some sparkling wine. It was lots of fun with Mum’s wood fire crackling, keeping us toasty warm.

On Sunday we visited Andrew’s Grandmother who lives in the middle of nowhere in a one-horse town called Allora, not too far from Warwick. We went through Toowoomba on the way – great views from there and a nice drive up a winding roadway. Andrew’s Grandmother appreciated our visit and told us some of her family history, some of it quite sad as she was a nurse in Russia in the second world war and had some awful experiences to say the least.

Finally back to Brisbane for a very brief (half an hour) stop at Caitlin and Deb’s who live south of Brisbane. Finally, a race to the airport, just in time to grab something to eat and trail the last of the passengers onto the plane home. Poor Andrew had to get a 6am flight the next day to Sydney for his final stint of training! Hectic but worth it.

It was so wonderful to have you and Andrew to stay even though it was a rushed visit. You’re always welcome in “Magical Maleny”. I must change my menu though as the fish curry is getting past the “tried and true” date!!

It certainly was an eventful w/end travel wise and I’m not surprised you didn’t have much time to spend with Caitlin……too many kms in a short time in my opinion.

My spate of visitors has come to an end :( sad but true. I wonder who will come next??

Yes – well you will be away in August and then having your group of friends stay with you in September so that’s not too bad really.

It was a great weekend away and now ready for two more – Sydney this weekend and Noosa next week. Should be fun.

Rose’s B&B was great :) It was fun to see you again Rose. The food was good and the house is nice. Pity I couldn’t put that set of shelves up…. :) Last weekend in Sydney was great too.

Hee hee! BTW Sylvia helped me prune the roses yesterday so I was happy about that. I had done a bit the other week and it had already started sprouting but she cut it back heaps further yesterday.

Roses are such amazing plants. On my return from Syd I was greeted by my roses all sprouting lovely healthy new leaves. And in such a lovely shape. I can’t wait until the blooms come. Marianne is so knowledgeable about rose pruning. I hope I can do it as well next year.

Yours will be the same,Ruth :)

Yes they have already started sprouting a lot of nice, healthy branches and leaves. It is fun watching them grow.
