Visit to the west
Saw a different part of Melbourne the other weekend when I went to my friend’s hen’s party and wedding at Werribee. It is west of Melbourne and took me about 50mins by train.
The hen’s party was at my friend’s house at Werribee South which is near the bay but very few people live there. In the cab, I passed market gardens, fields of green vegetables. Quite amazing – so close to Melbourne. There is a small patch of new houses where my friend lives – I can understand why they like living there. They have a market garden to look out onto and the ocean not very far away! It’s a totally different world. They built the house themselves so it is quite modern.
The wedding was at the Werribee Mansion which is an old stately home with huge gardens and an open range zoo attached. The ceremony was outside which was lovely (they were lucky to have a perfect sunny day) and the reception (an afternoon tea) inside. The bride looked beautiful in a straight, strapless beaded ivory dress with a wide gold sash.
Missing Andrew who is really enjoying his trip to India for work. We have been speaking by web cam weekly which has been great. He even put the camera onto the view from his hotel window – quite amazing that I can be sitting here in Melbourne and looking at real live India!! He has seen an elephant in the street and bought a traditional costume (kurta) and wore it to a work party and won first prize for best dressed!

I can understand the appeal of living close to nature after a few months in Bangkok. It’s mostly traffic and concrete here.
Great you and Andrew are keeping in touch via webcam. Any photos of him in his prize-winning costume?
Yes I can remember when I visited Bangkok from Cambodia noticing the commercial aspect of it particularly the huge billboards by the highways. I’ve added a pic of Andy for you! I don’t know how pleased he’ll be with me for doing that.
I am loving the outfit!!!!
When does he come home?
Sunday morning – plane arrives at 6.10am!
Lovely story, Ruth, and I’m sorry I haven’t commented on your blog….I was sort of out of the way of reading it as we seem to be talking to eachother frequently which is fantastic
I think Andy is so handsome in the kurta. I hope he brought it back with him. Must be good to have him home again.
What a lovely wedding in Werribee.
hey, are you liking Holy Cow?? I read it about two years ago and i have leant it to about 8 people since then and they have all enjoyed it. What a bizarre place India sounds!
India sure was interesting. Glad that I got the chance to see it. It wasn’t on my first choice of holiday destinations but it was definitely worth visiting.
