Socialising and sculpture in Sydney

Had a fantastic weekend in Sydney starting with a night to celebrate Amit’s birthday on Friday which was a lot of fun. We arrived a couple of hours late because we had to fly up after work but it was great to see everyone again. It was upstairs at the Marlborough Hotel at Newtown. Amit and Dave had hired out one part of the pub which was good.

Saturday was very enjoyable. Andrew and I were staying at Milsons Point so we decided to walk across the bridge, through the botanic gardens to the Art Gallery to see the Giacometti exhibition at the NSW Art Gallery. It was brilliant. I didn’t know anything about his work before but I really liked it. A lot of his scultpures are of figures in this really thin, emaciated, rough-hewn style. They’re really interesting to look at because they’re quite detailed and look different at every angle. He also did some sketches. A lucky thing was that when we walked in a guided tour was starting. It always increases the appreciation to get some information and history.

Caught up with Mum on Saturday night for dinner at the North Annandale while Andrew met up with his sister. On Sunday we went for breakfast with Mum and Ian at Glebe then went for a walk back to Annandale via Glebe point. It was quite a relaxing weekend overall too which made a difference to the really hectic ones we normally have when we go up to Sydney.

It was a glorious weekend indeed and it was really sweet of you both to come up and spend time with us. That was a touching gesture. Can’t believe another year has rolled by so fast. We didn’t get home till about 2:30 that morning and it was a fun night out, but given that I’m all so old and decrepit I had better watch out. Ain’t no spring chicken no more as they say. Glad you enjoyed your time out in Sydney and went for the exhibition too it was really nice to see you all and very kind of David to organise it all.

Yeah it was a pretty relaxing weekend :) It was great to see Amit (even though he is no spring chicken :) ). Good to see he and Dave had alot of fun on Friday night. The Giacometti exhibition was excellent as well. He was quite an inspiration for my year 12 artworks and it was great to actually see his artwork in the flesh. It really did give me a deeper appreciation of the sculptures and I am glad that Ruth found inspiration as well. It was also ecxellent to see Kate, Ian and Rose again and Sunday was such a relaxing day as well.

Old and decrepit with arthritis dementia and occasional bed-wetting and some senior moments now and then! Summer or Spring I have lost count of time… *sigh*

It was a great w/end spending it with all my favourite people in the world. Amit looks so great for 35 and he’s always so lovely to everyone….what a great temperament he has.

You made the most of your few days in Syd and seeing the exhibition made your trip worthwhile.

I wonder where your next Port of Call will be??

Yes Amit does have a lovely nature indeed! It was great to see you as well - thoroughly enjoyed it and felt very relaxed at the beginning of the week. That’s how you know you’ve had a good weekend. My next port of call might be Christchurch, NZ!
