Bug from hell
I’ve been floored by a hideous flu since Saturday. Had to take the whole week off work. It was horrendous. Started with a terrible headache on Saturday and then morphed into sore throat, aches, fever, a hacking cough and constricted chest. I have had a temperature constantly from Saturday to yesterday which made me feel awful.
Only today have I felt marginally better but have still been in bed. It really makes you appreciate good health. I don’t know how I’d cope if I had an ongoing illness. You feel so isolated and weak. Everything tastes horrible - have only been eating dry biscuits and a bit of fruit. Breathing has been difficult too.
I’m hoping by Monday, I’ll be able to go back to work after another quiet weekend. Might try to get in the Picasso exhibition if I’m feeling better.
Last weekend, I saw Pirates of the Caribbean II with Andrew which was really good. We had won tickets to the Gold Class cinema which was a real treat - reclining, plush seats and a button to call for service.
Also had a good night meeting up with Nick who was down from Sydney and his friend Sarah who lives here as well as Kate, Andrew’s sister last Sat night but I was already feeling sick by then so didn’t enjoy it as much as I normally would.
Wow - that sounds like one mighty illness! Sorry to hear you ahve been so under the weather. I got something similar earlier this year and was racked with pain and shivering. It’s scary! Do you feel better today? There are some strange bugs out there and they seem to really floor you.
Get well soon
x
Not only that, she gave it to me as well
Although I didn’t get it as bad as Ruth. I had the flu last year so I think that my body still has to combat the flu this year.
I had Monday and Tuesday off and have been working from home all week (also tending to Ruth - she has been at my place for most of the week). Ruth had stayed at her place on Monday night but she was feeling really bad on Tuesday still and was going nutty at home all by her self so I carted her back to my place so that she could have some company and shared suffering
She was in bed most of the week. Am hboping that by the end of the week we’ll both be over this…
You have had a bad trot that’s for sure. I can’t remember you ever being that sick apart from when you had lots of bouts of tonsilitis when you were a tot. So sad to hear this news and wish I was closer to give you some TLC but Andrew has come to the fore…….sorry he was sick also. Yes, good health is a blessing and we sure appreciate it when sickness rears its ugly head!!
I hope you’re on the mend and you’ll be looking forward to the Spring and some sunshine and warmer days. Thinking of you.
Pirates looks good - have yet to see it. Taking Judah to Hoodwinked tomorrow - the Red Riding Hood story. Watched Flight Plan the other night - thought it was okay for B grade. Watchign Syriana tonight.
Yes it has been a nightmare. I am gradually getting better. Temp has gone but cough still bad. The anitbiotics seem to be working.
Andrew wants to see Syriana. We have just gone and borrowed 2 DVDs - I chose March of the Penguins and Andrew chose Wasabi.
We also went to the Shopping centre and I got the Rough Guide to India from Borders - I had a 20% discount voucher from answering a survey. I wasn’t feeling much in the mood for crowds though - and could have been provoked to “go postal” (Andrew’s new saying - apparently represents US postal workers who have lost it and gone on a shooting spree).
Sorry to hear you were so ill, hope you and Andrew are feeling much better now. Sounds like you have been keeping yourself pretty busy in Melbourne! I will remember to check your diary more often!
Hi Karla! Thanks for that! Hope you’re all well.
I loved “March of the Penguins”…what amazing creatures and what inspiring photograghy. Is Andy watching “Lord of the Rings” tonight?
I hope you have a better week. You’ll be tired after your first day back at work. I hope it’s relatively stress free.
Thanks - I’ll have to try to take it easy this week. Yes ‘March of the Pengies’ was great. It is amazing what they do to look after the eggs especially how the male penguin keeps them warm for a few months in those blizzard conditions. Went to the Picasso exhibition today. It was very interesting but very crowded. There was a wide range of paintings and sketches from the period 1935-45 as well as photos by Dora Maar who Picasso was having a relationship with at the time.
March of the Pengies! sounds interesting. Do not - I repeat DO NOT - bother wasting two precious hours watching Syriana. It was so pathetic. Matt Damon is like some chidl tryign to cut it in the big boy’s world. It made me want to “go postal”
OK thanks for that tip.
My next “must see” movie is “Water”. My friend is seeing it for the second time so it must be good. Next is “Wah Wah”.
Hope you are feeling better.
Getting there…at least I am back to work this week. But still sound like a fog horn and nose is like a broken tap
Poor Poppit….I do feel sorry for you. I hope you have recovered enough to be out and about in the workplace. That sort of a cold/flu is very draining (pun!)!!
I look forward to hearing a good health report soon.
How are you enjoying the Barbara Kingsolver book? I tried twice to read The Poisonwood Bible but couldn’t get into it. I am reading Dry by Augusten Burroughs (sad little alcoholic bloke with tragic life but very witty) and have just finished Teh Little Man from Archangel by Georges Simenon. It was dark but well written.
Did oyu watch the first episode last night of the Book Club hosted by Jennifer Byrne (ABC) ?
Damn!!! I knew there was something to watch on Tuesday night! We tend not to watch too much TV and I think we had an early night on Tuesday anyway. Was it good? Ruth has been getting progressively better this week as have I. We are planning to have a relatively quiet and restfull weekend to see if we can recover fully from the flu
I watched The First Tuesday Book Club but didn’t know any of the titles. I was interested to see Peter Cundall on the panel and he has been an avid reader for many a long day. I’m really enjoying reading “The Life of Pi”. My next book to read is “The Kite Runner”…. highly recommended by a friend.
Glad that flu bug has flown!!
I wanted to watch the book show but forgot. I might watch it tonight. I’m enjoying some Kingsolver short stories at the moment - I’m finding them quite insightful about the intricacies of the relationships of the characters. I still have a bit of a cough but each day I feel better - I’m definitely more focused this week at work which helps.
[…] It takes one to be sick and down with some sort of ailment to realise how most of the time we just dont value good health… Like Ruth said in her entry a few weeks back we too are down with the bug from hell. Constant coughing that pulls your lungs apart, high tempertature and lethargy, difficulty breathing and worst of all, difficulty getting a good night sleep… I feel so incapacitated and there is nothing worse that sitting at home locked up. I hate it! […]
