Amit and Dave’s visit
Had a fantastic couple of nights out last week with Amit and Dave who were down from Sydney. We caught up with them at their fantastic boutique hotel in South Yarra, The Hatton, last Sunday night. It’s a lovely old art deco terrace with modern furnishings and artwork. It had a wonderful rooftop terrace with a view of the city. We were the only ones up there - what a wonderful way to start the evening sipping on a nice Merlot and enjoying a cheese platter and great conversation.
After that we went to The Watergrill restaurant in South Yarra - it’s pricey but worth it for the yummy grilled seafood and nice atmosphere. We had heaps of fun catching up and hearing about their weekend wine tasting in the Yarra Valley.
Monday night was another great get together with Amit, Dave, Lachlan, Peter, Cam (x2), Andrew and I. See photos on Cam’s flickr from the evening. Had a lot of laughs with those guys, most of whom are part of the Melbourne arm of the web standards group. Looking forward to going to the next WSG seminar this week about techniques for the internationalisation of websites.
We had some drinks on the roof again then headed to a Mexican restaurant close by. Cam’s hilarious story of a city-dwelling goat who liked to eat teabags (did I get that right? hee hee) set the tone for the evening and there were many laughs that followed on. Dave ended up carrying one of the hotel’s towels around for the eveing (don’t ask) and Andrew talked up the $1 pool tables at a seedy Caulfield South drinking joint as well as the attraction of a pub called ‘ The Dick’ (short for Dick Whittington) on Chapel Street. Hmmmm!

The Hotel David and Amit were at was fantastic. The coolest that I have been to so far. Very Art Deco, yet modern as well and has a fantastic outlook back over Melbourne. Quite leafy as well around there because of botanical gardens etc…
Monday night was hilarious and the guys from the WSG were a lot of laughs
Gotta talk up $1 pool. I haven’t seen prices like that since Uni!!! The place might be a bit seedy, but with cheap drinks and cheap pool, what more can you want
The “Dick” is more of a curiosity thing… How could you name a pub “The Dick” and be taken seriously
Was fantastic to see Dave and Amit again, lots of fun!
I loved your recount of meeting up with Amit again……he is always lots of fun. Wouldn’t mind seeing some of those interesting places when I visit you next. Not sure about “The Dick” though!! Keep up your social gad -abouting.
We will indeed - Sonia has just invited us to go with her and Ivan to a Spanish fiesta on Saturday night where there will be dancing - a community type thing. Should be fun!
That sounds right up your alley….I can just see you in your flowing spanish skirt tripping the light fantastic. What a lovely night it will be. I look forward to reading another interesting snippet on Mozeenet.
I’m thoroughly enjoying “The Sea”.
I’m interested to hear what other people thought of The Sea. My Mum liked it too. I liked it when I got past halfway, before that it seemed too slow.
Yeah I agree - I thought it was a bit slow to start too but got better in the second half.
