Back online in Melbourne
I’ve just got my Internet connected this week so I can get back into describing my life in Melbourne. Lots has happened since the last update.
I ended up getting the place in Balaclava which has worked out to be a fantastic choice. Thanks to Andrew for finding it. Besides being in great condition and really comfortable, it’s so convenient - only 5 mins from Balaclava station and very close to supermarkets, restaurants and trams going in all directions. It’s near Chapel Street which has some great places and just a 10 minute walk to St Kilda. Have found some cute little places to go to have dinner and a drink nearby.
Besides that I’ve had a few visitors down here including Bek and John from Sydney and Mum and Ian over the last few days which has been a lot of fun. They all like the place.

Christmas was in Sydney with Ian, Mum and Ian’s flatmate Alison and her daughters. I got to catch up with friends in Sydney too. Then it was back here for New Year’s Eve. Andrew and I headed in to the Yarra at around 11.30pm and made it in 5 mins before the fireworks. We were able to get a great position to see the display which I was amazed at knowing what it is like trying to see them in Sydney. They were fantastic - shooting up all along the river and above some of the city skyscrapers.
The week before Christmas was Katy and Gavin’s wedding in Port Macquarie which was a great weekend. Andrew and I flew to Sydney then drove up and the wedding was on the Saturday. I did a reading at the ceremony at the church. Katy looked gorgeous as you can see in the photos of the wedding. I loved the bridesmaid’s dresses too - Loretta looked great along with the others. The reception was so nice and relaxed with a delicious meal and dancing, held at Sails Resort in Port Macquarie. We were seated with a nice group of people and overall had a fantastic night.
Now I am starting to settle into living in Melbourne and to really enjoy it. I’m getting used to the changeable weather which is counterset by the great indoor venues for wining and dining - excellent ambience. We have been to quite a few with Mum and Ian including the vodka bar in Prahran, pizza, a vegetarian restaurant and Malaysian. I’ve found the St Kilda botanical gardens, a 5 min walk from my flat, which has a lovely rose garden and is very peaceful. The greenery and parklands here are very enjoyable.

Katy and Gavins weading was great! Was really good to see them and Lorretta and Dave as well. I am kind of glad that the Christmas and New Year stuff is over now. That was such a hectic few weeks. It will be good to settle down a bit again. There are so many places to explore down in Melbourne and so many restaurants and bars to sample
and so many of them are close by as well!! It was a pretty good pick of apartments wasn’t it
It definitely was!
Looks like you all had a great time at the wedding and thats excellent. And the silly season is finally over whew!! All that eating and drinking and socialising almost every night for weeks!!! Looking forward to see you both in Melbourne soon.
Hi Ruth and Andrew. Glad you both had a great time at the wedding. Ruth, your reading was a beautiful piece and you read it so well. Thank you. Who is the main photographer between you two. I love your photos. They look great and professional. Wishing you both a happy and prosperous 2006!
Love, katy and gavin xox
We both are! For these ones and the Northern Territory/ SouthAustralia ones, we both took some. Also keep in mind that I have worked in web development so know how to crop, resize and lighten images using Photoshop to highlight different parts! But don’t worry, I don’t airbrush!!
you are a great reader! I remember your piece at my wedding.
Thanks! I enjoyed doing the reading at both of your weddings. It felt good to contribute something. I read at Freya’s wedding too. Maybe I should change profession to ‘Wedding Reader’. Hee! Hee!
